Today there are more Federal grants available for women than ever before. There are grants for single mothers, minority girls, and women over 40 to cover job training, investing in businesses, housing costs, and a host of other purposes.
There are 25 different grant companies working with state governments, regional authorities, city or township governments, special district governments, and tribal governments that can help women to locate and qualify for Federal grants. A quick on-line search for Federal grants for women will yield a wealth of information on grant sources and eligibility requirements. Women can get special assistance in the grant application process and those who are not sure about which grants they may be eligible for can find more information on the requirements at the various Federal grant websites.
Federal grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are distributed to agencies that serve residents with differing needs including women living on low and moderate incomes. The guidelines require that 80% of the funds go to brick-and-mortar projects while only 20% is earmarked for administrative use. This means nearly all of the money goes to individuals and there are millions of dollars in Federal grants available for everything from rehabbing senior citizens’ homes to counseling for women who are victims of sexual abuse.
Even though the tough economy has put pressure on some grant resources, the Federal grant program is still alive and well for the most part and awards for women, minority women and single mothers with children are still readily available. If you’re an American woman with a verifiable need, a Federal grant might be waiting for you right now.
