by Grants.com
We compiled a list of tips from experts who have served on grant panels to help you prepare your housing grant application.

1. Make Your Best Case: In order to be awarded a housing grant, you need to lay out your story in a way that is clear and to the point. Explain your situation and lay out the facts of your housing needs.

2. Have Your documents in Order: Paperwork that is completed, proves that you are who you are, your rental agreement, your bank statements, pull together and label all documentation that helps you build you case and proves you qualify. Be sure that all of the information that you provide them with is entirely accurate, and verifiable.

3. Do Your Homework: It is a good idea to contact the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, HUD. Find out about all the different ways to apply for a housing grant and can offer answers to many of the questions that you may have about the process. Grants.com has a valuable database of articles and advice to determine whether or not you are eligible

4. Personalize It: Sometimes the intangibles are the difference between getting a grant or not. Humanize yourself. Don't go overboard, but adding a couple pictures, can literally put a human face on your application.
